Welcome to the Kent Tigers, a British basketball club based in Kent. Our journey began in the 2021-22 season, and since then, we have rapidly gained prominence within the British basketball community. We are proud to have established ourselves as a formidable force in the region, with a comprehensive program catering to players of all ages and skills.

A Brief History

The Kent Tigers Basketball Club was founded in 2021 by Sten Mayunga. Our humble beginnings in Division 3 of the local league quickly saw us rise to become a prominent club in the region. Our driving force has always been to create a community-focused and elite basketball club within the Kent region.

In 2022, we expanded our program with the launch of our juniors program, providing structured basketball training and competitive opportunities for boys and girls from under-12 to under-18 levels. This initiative has been instrumental in nurturing young talent and preparing them for higher levels of the game.

Furthermore, we entered into a significant partnership with the Universities at Medway in the same year. This collaboration aimed at taking control over the basketball program at the Medway University campus, enhancing opportunities for university students to engage in high-level basketball. We believe in providing avenues for aspiring players to pursue their passion while pursuing their academic goals.

Success on the Court

In our inaugural season, our Men’s senior team showcased exceptional performance by going unbeaten in the League. We clinched both the Medway Basketball Association D3 title and the Nobby Crouch Plate with a decisive 93-41 win over Iroquois. This success is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players and coaching staff.

A Complete Player Pathway

At Kent Tigers, we are committed to providing a complete player pathway. Our General Manager, Sten Mayunga, has championed this vision, ensuring that we cater to various abilities and genders. We operate in Dartford and other areas within Kent, reaching out to basketball enthusiasts across the region.

In line with our commitment to inclusivity, we have formed a partnership with Little Hoopers, a child-friendly basketball program known for its innovative approach to introducing basketball to young children. Little Hoopers’ programs, designed for children as young as three years old, focus on creating a safe, fun, and educational environment for early engagement with the sport.

This partnership enriches our club’s structure, extending our pathway to include foundational basketball experiences for toddlers and preschoolers. By fostering early engagement with the sport, we aim to inspire a lifelong love for basketball.

Community-Driven Approach

As a community-driven club, we prioritise creating opportunities for local engagement and sports development. Our partnerships with the Universities at Medway and Little Hoopers are a testament to our commitment to fostering basketball at the grassroots and university levels.

We believe in ensuring a sustainable and inclusive growth of the sport in the region. Our community-driven approach led us to win the Basketball England South East community club of the year in 2022, an accolade that motivates us to continue making a positive impact on the basketball landscape.

Join us on this exciting journey as we continue to build a community-focused and elite basketball program here in Kent. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, there’s a place for you at Kent Tigers. Together, let’s embrace the spirit of basketball and create lasting memories on and off the court.
